E3 2007 (Thoughts after 2 days)

Microsoft Press Conference: I thought It started good but got kinda boring at some points. I thought the Rock band presentation was really cool. I thought that the Gears of War for PC was kind of a dumb thing. Lost Odyssey didn’t look as good as it has in the past. GTA 4 had a horrible showing because it was the same trailer we had seen before. Mass Effect looked great thought and I’m totally excited. The live arcade montage was awesome showcasing games like Sonic, Marathon, and Golden Axe. Also I was told Resident Evil 5 wouldn’t be at E3 so it was a huge and welcomed suprise to watch that trailer. I’m really excited for the marketplace in the future. Then of course came the halo footage. It was confusing at first because the first trailer was live action but I know they aren’t making the movie anytime soon so I was confused. It looked okay but kind of cheesy too. So then came the Halo 3 campaign footage, well personally I didn’t like it. I was absorbed the first time because it was Halo but the truth of it is was it didn’t look good. If I had to put together my top 10 shooters of E3 (graphics only) Halo 3 would be down in like 5 or 6th place. It may have an amazing story but the graphics just didn’t cut it.

 Nintendo Conference: Not anything really that pops out to me. It had some great news items though. Wii Fit looked like a cool Idea I’ll be interested to see if it sells well. The zapper seemed pretty stupid to me as did the mario racing wheel. They seemed like a quick way to make 10 bucks but pretty useless. Smash brothers and Galaxy out in November and December makes me really happy. The Metroid Prime 3: Corruption demo was fantastic. I was really on the fence but after seeing the girl demo it I want it now. It looks like it may be the first good shooter on the Wii. I love my Ds to death and was so excited about all the new Square Enix games and the new Zelda coming in October. This will be one hell of a fun holiday on the wii.

Sony Conference: Sony did such a good job with the conference. There were so many awesome games they announced coming between 4th quarter 2007 and 2nd quarter 2008. So you don’t need to buy a PS3 yet but by the winter you better start thinking about it. I expect to have one with in this window. Drake’s Fortune, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Home going live, and more… Oh and How AMAZING was the Killzone 2 gameplay. The explosions weren’t that good but the rest was incredible. It absolutely game me a mind job right there, unbelievable. The PSP redesign wasn’t really that interesting to me. The games don’t seem to be all that interesting and I don’t know why you’d play your “portable” games on a TV. Why? So Sony game a really good showing, not to mention they gave us a good retrospective of where they are going in the next year or 2 witch is something Microsoft didn’t do at all and Nintendo only touched on.

It’s only the second day of E3 but I’ll put up a list of most anticipated so far (NOT IN A PARTICULAR ORDER) I won’t make a final in order list until E3 is over and I’ve seen everything.

You know what I’ll just list a bunch of stuff for now with a note on my excitement level for it.

Microsoft:

Silent Hill 5 (Wait and see)
Kane and Lynch (moderate)
Assasin’s Creed (OMG yell yeah)
Call of Duty 4 (looks awesome but still unsure with gameplay)
Army of Two (meh looks good but gameplay demo was boring)
Halo 3 (Will buy but am starting to lower expectations and may not get the legendary anymore)
Too Human (looking pretty sweet but I’ll wait for now)
Rock Band (how awesome is the drum set
Mercanaries 2 (good but not enough to suprass the other more original shooters)
Burnout Paradise (looks Fantastic)
RE5 (I can’t wait)
Lost Odyssey (meh)
GH 3 (it looks great but I’ll pick Rock Band first)
Mass Effect (Can’t freaking wait)
StrangleHold (love it but have others to get first0
Bioshock (A big freaking DUHHH)
PGR4 (don’t care)
Halo Wars (looks awesome and hope it gets on a PC because I’m not interested in the console)
Timeshift (looks good so far)
Fracture (buying it for sure)

Sony:

MGS4 (looking absolutly incredible can’t wait for the demo next week)
Killzone 2 (Amazed and stunned beyond belief)
Little Big Planet (looking awesome but I’m on the fence)
Uncarted: Drake’s Fortune (I love it to death so far)
Haze (Looking good but another shooter)
Heavenly Sword (next gen God of War pretty much and can’t ****ing wait)
Warhawk (looks sweet as hell)
Turok (amazing finally a good Turok game, its been a while)
Lair (So incredible one of the things that will make me get a PS3)
Ratchet and Clank (So excited for it, can’t wait to use the groovitron)
Dynasty Warrior: Gundam (total suprise and am intruiged)
More… a lot of games on 360 too so didn’t want to re-tye them.
PsP: God of War was about it

Nintendo:

Wii:
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2 (it’s great I liked the first one a ton)
Super Smash Brothers Brawl (one of the best games ever)
Wii Fit (interesting I almost don’t know if it should be called a game lol)
Super Mario Galaxy (Looks amazing and great so I’ll be there)
Metroid Prime 3 (I was skeptical but now I’m really stoked for it.)
Fire Emblem: GoD (always good games so I’ll check it out)
Mario Kart Wii (this is also a big DUHHH)
Boogie (confused yet intruiged)
Mushroom Men (good graphics but not into it)

NDS:

Contra 4 (Hell yeah back to basics)
Flash Focus (good concept but still not interested)
Brain Age 2 (looking good)
Nintendo Crossword (I don’t like crosswords)
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (incredible can’t wait to get my hands on it)
Demention: The Ward (interesting very interesting)
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (OMG can’t Wait)
Dragon Quest: Swords (looks okay, not a fan of the series though)
All Final Fantasy Games: (Love and will buy without hesitation. FF 3 captured my heart)

PC:

 Crysis (looks great can’t run it)
Gears of War ( looks cool but played it and can’t run on my Pc)
Hellgate: Londan (looks great can’t run on PC)
Empire Earth 3 (cool but nothing original)
Simcity Societies (I really am into this game so far)
Spore (excited and can’t wait to see the final product)

Suprises:

RE5 trailer out of left field here
Wii Fit odd but new
Sony not stinking up the place
Killzone 2 I was stunned and didn’t know this was possible
Drums for Rock Band (thought it would be crappy pad but dam it looks cool)
Mario Kart Wii can’t wait for hte online play

No Shows:

No new GTA 4
Smash Bros. Footage
Nothing else really I’m pretty satisfied with things so far.

Disappointments:

Unreal Tournament 3 Ps3 exclusive (at least for a while)
Halo 3 campaign montage (graphics were bad and lowed expectations a lot)
Wii online still kinda sucks
New PSP design not worth it, what a waste
No PSP support still (not good games really)
Halo 3 console
Wii Accessories Zapper, and wheel
Army of Two good graphics but boring gameplay so far.

So far I would say as far as the companies go I think it’s in this order

1. Sony
2. Nintendo
3. Microsoft

Best Games:

1. Sony
2. Microsoft
3. Nintendo Wii/DS

Note: This is based on the E3 2007 footage, interviews, and conferences only. Not based on previous stuff or speculation. Also we are only two days in so it should be interesting to see where it goes.

PS. If I forgot some things sue me lol. It’s hard to keep up with everything at E3 but this is what I think so far on the event.
